Capra hircus mambrica

collage and watercolour 2022  22.5″w, 20″h
This work started with my interest in a 1950s map of oil resources in the Middle East. I have combined that with the endangered Israeli black goat, which was nearly exterminated in the name of agriculture in the early state of Israel. After forest fires on Mount Carmel in 2014, there were efforts to revitalize herds of indigenous black goats, who eat underbrush, aiding in the mitigation of such fires. The barcodes and QR codes represent the commodification of resources extracted from the land. The red outlines simultaneously delineate oil pipelines and burnt trees.
