I Don’t Know Who the Arsonist Is

2022   20.5”h, 25”w  collage, watercolour and gouache

The “wall” along sections of the Mexico/US border is contributing to geographic species fragmentation at the same time that forest fires decimate their habitat. This faux-painted trompe-l’oeil wall imagines the surrounding landscape mitigating the damage inflicted upon it. A deer has died along the border near a turnstile opening detectable to its particular visible color spectrum. Collaged, camouflage-patterned papers imitate a barren desert terrain, along with mountains and forests on fire. (The title is a tribute to Joni Mitchell)
