Selzer Chapel

collage 22”w, 18”h, 2017

Since I was young and first introduced to carbonated mineral water in Paris, I have been passionate about selzer. When I walked in the Gershman Y many years ago, I was delighted to see that there is a chapel devoted to selzer! This collage includes images of Rodeph Shalom; the oldest Ashkenaz synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, the non-extant structure by Furness and the existing building designed by Simon and Simon, also included are images of early carbonation apparatus, selzer bubbles and the chemical equation to carbonate water.
