A Tree in A Field

2013 26w, 26.75h collage, 3-d paper shapes

In February, 2001, the journal Nature published an image of the first complete human DNA sequence.
Foer explains that “a molecular biologist at the NIH, (who actually understands what this is all about) had the foresight to give me the journal to use the images in a collage.” She cites a quote from Torah “for man is like a tree in a field,” a declaration that Hebrew soldiers must not destroy trees on conquered land. This inspired the artist to use the DNA in the form of a tree, with some human characteristics.
