An island is supported with iron girders to prevent it from being subsumed by the ocean. An indented area is left where land once stood. This phenomenon is happening in the South Pacific to landforms such as Vanuatu and Kiribati, and closer to home, in Louisiana.
Meanwhile, species are migrating to and from the island, which happens when islands are cut off from the mainland, representing the research field of island biogeography.
I was listening to news reports of severe flooding in Florida after Hurricane Ian while making this composition and wondering when people will realize they cannot live any longer in the affected area.
